By now, you know it was necessary to reschedule the Orlando Row for the Cure®, because of the effects of Tropical Storm Fay. But, as promised, the show will go on! We have rescheduled the regatta for Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, which will now take place on our own Lake Fairview as a 1,000-meter sprint. We've also opened up registration to colleges and juniors, so competition will be bigger and better!
We sincerely thank all of you for your support and willingness to contribute to this very worthy cause. We further hope that the delay will not dampen your enthusiasm and that you will be on board for the rescheduled Row for the Cure®.
That said, if you wish a refund of your contribution or entry fees, we will certainly comply. Please e-mail Head Coach Laura Riekki if you are unable to continue your sponsorship and need a refund of your donation. We hope you will consider your gifts and fees as a firm commitment to participate in the event.
The additional two months will provide us all more time for fund-raising, practice, planning and rower participation. We can assure you that the October Row for the Cure® will be well worth the delay and a great event.
Registration is now open (again) at Regatta Central. A big welcome to our college and juniors entries!
Original information below has been updated to reflect the updates and changes since the postponement of the regatta.
Orlando Rowing Club is proud to host Row for the Cure® Orlando, a fund-raiser in support of the Central Florida affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to be held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Lake Fairview Park, 2200 Lee Road, Orlando, FL 32810 (MAP).
All proceeds will go to the Central Florida affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and donations are tax-deductible.
In addition to rowing events, Row for the Cure® will feature events for kayaks, canoes and dragon boats (the race schedule is still being put together, but non-crew boats will race in the afternoon).
This should be very, very fun event thanks to the hard work of our regatta committee. With your entry, you'll receive a free T-shirt and rowing swag bag! For raffle, we offer a set of WinTech boat slings, a gift basket from Orlando Brewing and a $475 certificate for spa services from Treatments in Sanford!
The grand prize for funds raised is a three-day sculling clinic at the Florida Rowing Center in Wellington, with other prizes from WinTech and Vespoli.
Race distance is 1,000 meters. The event will feature masters, colleges and juniors categories on a six-lane, buoyed course. Please help support our efforts in the fight against breast cancer.
Not a rower but still eager to do your part in our battle against breast cancer? Or will you be a competitor with time between races? Volunteering is a great way to participate in the fun. Please e-mail ORC member Betsy Baker to sign up, or download our flyer (MSWord format), which includes additional contact information and information on how you can make a tax-deductible donation.
Invite friends and family to support your participation in Row for the Cure® by sponsoring your row. Prizes will be given to the largest fund-raisers! Download our sponsor sheet (MSWord) to document your fund-raising progress.
